Five things you may be ignoring if you are a small business owner
There are many small businesses in the United States. As per this article from sba.gov there are 32.5 million small businesses in the United States contributing to 44 % of the United States economy. With the pandemic and the current market conditions, many small businesses are surviving and many sadly could not survive. There are many things that you may be ignoring if you are a small business owner. Here in this blog I talk about 5 things you may be ignoring if you are a small business owner.
1. Do you have a catchy modern website?
Sure, you have a website, but the users nowadays wish for clean, modern designs, where less is more. A few impactful words and high resolution images, that convey what you do and what you do best goes far and beyond in conveying your services to the smart present generation users, rather than a cluttered , “saying too much” website. Think about conveying more with minimalistic designs. A fast loading website, with responsiveness on a mobile device is much more effective. Also, if you don’t have a website yet, then it is high time you got one, because having a website drives so much more credibility to your business and makes you look serious, committed and professional to your clients
2. Is your website mobile friendly?
As per Think with Google’s report more than 50% of the traffic comes from mobile. So if you have a website but the content takes too much time to load, or it gets chopped off as the user is viewing on her mobile, it is sure to drive your potential customers away. Don’t ignore this gap if you have it, since not having a mobile friendly website can give a feeling to your users that you really don’t care.
3. Are you present in social media and do you post regularly?
If you are a small business owner, and are not taking active steps to be engaged on social media channels you are losing out on potential customers. Social media is the next best friend you have, after referrals. People who hear about you on social media and approach you, already know how good you are through their network or comments from your posts. There are several social media channels out there – Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, Youtube, Tiktok etc. Choose one or two channels that work for you, and be out there. Being out there, and engaging with your potential customers, is a sure shot way to stay engaged and eventually win long time customers.
4. Are you looking at your analytics data?
If you have a website or social media presence, all of these channels are equipped to provide you with valuable insights on the customer or user activity on your channels. How many people are visiting you every day, which part of the world are they coming from? What are their demographics, which time of the day is busiest? Which page has a potential to convert more? These are just a few questions that you can answer by carefully tracking and reviewing your analytics data. Once you answer these questions, you may be able to get a few action items and take aways that you can incorporate in your business. Are you doing the same?
5. Are you visible in google search results?
Finally, if you are a small business owner with a website, are you being relevant enough to pop up in google search results when potential customers search for something you offer? Keyword optimization on your website, is an important aspect of staying relevant to Google search results. They say that “Out of sight is out of mind”, well if you are not visible when Google presents its search results, many people don’t know about you…yet :-).
